Jenny MurphyWhat is your name?
Jenny Murphy

Where do you work and what do you do?
Newport City Homes – Data & Quality Manager

What made you choose a career in housing?
I already knew a little about the housing industry, having worked on the Welsh House Condition survey many years ago. For me, it’s really important to have a good quality home – it’s essential for people to feel safe in their homes to be able to live life to the full.

What is the most important thing you have you learned since joining NCH?
The need to use data more effectively is really high on the agenda and great to see.

What advice would you give someone applying for a job in housing?
Whatever skills you have are valuable, your colleagues will be able to help with your knowledge of the housing sector (and everyone is really helpful!).

Where would you be working, if not in housing?
Anywhere in the public sector. I want my work to make a difference.

What motivates you?
Learning, teaching and helping others to achieve their best.

What do you do to relax?
I love the water – swimming, scuba diving and underwater hockey are all on the list, but spending time by the sea is best!

Proudest moment?
Getting my PhD. It was hard work, but the experience was so worth it and I think it made me more resilient

Most embarrassing moment?
Far too many to choose from, but lots involving small children and their knack for inappropriate comments…

What was the last film you watched and how did you rate it?
The Man with the Golden Gun – I love a Bond film, so I’m introducing my children to them. It’s dated now, but still a great watch.
