CIH Cymru launches its Back Housing 2021 today outlining the policy ideas all political parties in Wales are being asked to include in their commitment to the Welsh public in campaigning towards and beyond the Welsh Parliament election next April.
The manifesto has been created in consultation with a wide range of housing professionals working in the sector and provides tangible ideas to maximise the impact housing professionals are able to have in their roles working with and supporting communities across Wales.
At the centre of the manifesto is a call to incorporate the right to adequate housing into Welsh law, so that everyone can access a safe, affordable place to call home.
Political parties are also being asked to commit to:
- Futureproofing the housing profession by creating a workforce strategy
- Establish a Green Partnership with the sector
- Support improvements in private renting for both landlords and tenants
- Address stigma associated with social housing and promote the positive impact of diverse communities
Matt Dicks, national director of CIH Cymru said: ‘Our manifesto is the result of an ongoing conversation with housing professionals working at all levels in the sector. We believe that our asks would make a tangible difference to how people access housing in Wales and their experiences thereafter.
‘Our calls target action in a number of areas including how we nurture the skills housing professionals need both now and in the future, how we accelerate towards becoming a greener, environmentally friendly sector and harness the support from the Welsh public to see meaningful progress in addressing the housing crisis over the course of the next Welsh Parliament and beyond.’
