Women’s Equality Network Wales feature

Do you work with women, for women?

Are you a member of a women’s organisation or group? If so, we want to hear from you! Michala Rudman appeals for information for an audit of the women’s sector in Wales

I have been tasked by the women’s Equality network Wales (WEN Wales) to complete an audit of the women’s sector to better understand the different ways in which it works to survey is to compile a much needed database of organisations that will enable WEN Wales to make connections between partners; highlight new opportunities and funding streams; report gaps in support women in Wales. There are so many formal and informal groups, networks and organisations out there that we know are doing a fantastic job of supporting and developing women.

The problem is that many are not being recognised for whatever reason and because of this are not benefiting from the support that is already out there. After all, most of us know at least one local women’s group. But many of them operate in isolation – they simply don’t realise that there are others just like them. We are here to make some of those links. Ultimately the aim of the the service to Welsh Government and the wider third sector; share best practice across the network; and provide communities with a comprehensive list of services and resources. This exercise will help us develop an improved network which will encourage greater collaboration and add value to projects at a time when budgets are being cut and people are trying to do more with less.

So, if you are professionally or personally involved with a group that should be on the list – be it a local Merched Y Wawr or Women’s Institute group, or if you know a community group, a knitting club or any other informal get together, please get in touch to register on the database. It’s completely free and only takes a few minutes, but the benefits to your group and the wider community could be huge.

Please contact me via wenwales@gmail.comor on twitter @michalarudman to discuss your group or organisation and the work you do. If you visit http://www.bit.ly/wEnaudit you can complete the survey.
