Digartref Ynys Mon – Clear Voices Tenant Empowerment Grant
Digartref Ynys Mon provides supported accommodation on behalf of Tai Eryri to young people aged between 16 and 25 years who may have been affected by housing issues. The organisation supports them to develop skills and to find suitable training or employment opportunities essential for independent living.
The aims of the project were to raise awareness of the benefits of tenant participation amongst residents (and support staff), and to look at the preferred options/methods for involvement by young people. It was also intended that the project would enable the young people to explore the support needed for them to participate meaningfully and develop their skills and knowledge to allow them to help organise and actively participate in the activities. The final aim of the TEG project was to help build links, and break down barriers with the wider community through looking at equality and diversity issues.
As part of the TEG project facilitated methods were used to enable the residents to reflect on their skills, interests and knowledge and how these talents could be used in future participation and consultation events for the benefit of both the organisation, the young people and the wider community. The residents also completed a skills and talents survey, the results of which were used to help plan and organise a social event for the local sheltered housing residents.
At the end of the TEG project, a ‘method’ of resident involvement was established that can be used by Digartref Ynys Mon for the future.
