Great homes need great spaces

The Welsh Housing Quality Standard states that ‘Homes should be located in attractive, safe environments that tenants can relate to and where they feel proud to live’. One of the key messages of the guidance is to ensure that we consult with residents in order to identify improvement priorities.

Developing an environmental vision and understanding the principles behind various environmental improvements provides a wider and creative opportunity to develop and regenerate open spaces and create solutions to neighbourhood and community issues. This two day course enables good practice to be identified and condensed to inform the development of your own Local Environmental Standard and includes the option of an estate visit.

This 2 day course will provide staff and tenants with a tool kit and information for environmental improvements that can improve their ‘homes’ and communities.

By the end of the course you will:

  • have an understanding of the Welsh Government guidance on the Environmental Standard and the principles underlying environmental improvements
  • compared examples of environmental improvements
  • identified key issues, challenges and aspirations affecting your estates through participating in an estate visit and a range of exercises
  • be able to develop your vision statement and your own Local Standard

Who should attend?

For all tenants and residents, housing officers, managers and tenant participation workers, board members of housing associations and elected members of local authorities.
