Leading experts speak at Apollo sustainability seminar

A panel of eco experts will explore the sustainable future of housing at an Apollo-run event during this year’s CIH Cymru, in Cardiff.

The event, aimed at housing professionals, will feature respected environmental experts Andrew Eagles, MD of Sustainable Homes, and Simon McWhirter, Director of the Great British Refurbishment (a UKGBC and WWF campaign). Andrew will speak on tenant engagement and explain how Sustainable Homes Index for Tomorrow (SHIFT) can drive and support environmental agendas for public sector clients; while Simon will lead on the Green Deal and issues with delivery and take up in Wales.

Group Environmental Sustainability Manager for Affinity Sutton, Susie Ward will also be speaking at the event and will offer a first hand account of helping to establish and drive an eco retrofitting programme of works, called FutureFit, across over 100 homes. As well as sharing a practical approach to working with existing partners and occupied homes, Susie will unpick the detail behind how a landlord might realistically be able to address the energy efficiency of its stock on a large scale.

Daren Moseley, Regional Director for Apollo, said:

‘We know sustainability is high on the agenda for local authorities, housing associations and registered social landlords and are therefore keen to open up opportunities for our clients to gain advice on this complex arena. Apollo has the privilege of working with Sustainable Homes as their principal sponsor, as well as being part of Affinity Sutton’s FutureFit programme, so we are well-placed to facilitate this kind of knowledge share event. We hope it will prove extremely useful.’

The seminar will be chaired by Nick Duxbury, Editor of Sustainable Housing supplement to the nationwide magazine Inside Housing. He will also lead a time of questions and answers between the delegates and experts before closing the event.
